We’re Expanding!

It’s an exciting time at Friends of Trees. This image shows where we were during the 2011-12 planting season:

You can find the above map in our 2012 Annual Report.

And here’s what we just did … The map below shows Friends of Trees’ accomplishments “by the numbers” during the 2012-13 planting season and fiscal year. With offices again in three cities in two states, our volunteers again gave 38,000 hours of their time, this time to plant 44,000 trees and native plants at 100 planting and tree-care events in 20 cities spanning nine counties.

Our new three-year strategic plan is nearly completed, and we look forward to more regional expansion, with additional community plantings in partnership with the City of Salem and continued growth in Vancouver, WA and Lane County.

We’re in the process of expanding our work within the Portland-Vancouver region through a partnership with the Forest Park Conservancy, Clark County, and the Sandy River Watershed Basin Council. And we’re partnering with The Intertwine and the Oregon Department of Forestry to develop the nation’s first comprehensive regional urban forestry plan, which will address ecosystem issues and ecosystem services that cross our man-made boundaries.

Of course, Friends of Trees starts with people—people shaping their neighborhoods, cities and region, and inspiring the next generation of stewards. Visit our web site to see the many ways you can support and get involved with Friends of Trees during the 2013-14 season.
