Planting season is off to a great start!

Nov. 10, 2012 Gresham Woods Green Space Planting
Volunteer planters at Gresham Woods (Keith Nevison)

Thanks to the time and care given by nearly 500 volunteers during the past few weeks, our Green Space Initiative has planted more than 5,100 native trees and plants already and our Neighborhood Trees program has hosted successful plantings in conjunction with crew leader trainings in Portland and Vancouver. We’re also hosting a crew leader training in Eugene today. Read more about it on our Eugene-Springfield calendar.

In addition, we’re excited that approximately 2,000 street and yard trees have been ordered to date—to be planted at homes in Portland and Vancouver this fall and winter. If you’ve signed up for a tree already but haven’t chosen the kind you’d like for your home, don’t miss tonight’s free slide show presentation at the New Columbia Community Education Center or the presentation at the Kennedy School Community Room on Dec. 6. Longtime volunteer and tree expert Jim Gersbach will give the slide shows from 7:00 to 9:00 pm both nights. Learn more on our blog or on the Portland Society Page.

If you haven’t signed up for a tree yet, now’s a great time. We have lots of trees to choose from.

If you’re one of the amazing volunteers who attended one of our fall crew leader trainings, watch for tomorrow’s blog post here on Growth Rings. We look forward to thanking all of you.

We also look forward to our Dec. 1 plantings in Portland and West Linn. It’s going to be a great year of planting!
