Did you miss your Friends of Trees neighborhood planting date? Are you still interested in planting a street or yard tree this season? Have you thought about planting fruit trees to complete your edible landscape?

If so, be sure to mark your calendar for the upcoming Friends of Trees Fruit Tree Giveaway and End-of-Season Tree Sale on Saturday, April 23!

Friends of Trees is hosting our annual Fruit Tree Giveaway and End-of-Season Tree Sale at our office, 3117 NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. Both the giveaway and sale begin at 10 a.m. in the south parking lot, on the corner of NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and NE Monroe Street.

The Fruit Tree Giveaway is a first-come, first-served event, with a limit of three fruit trees per household. The suggested donation is $5/tree. The fruit trees are donated by area nurseries and the species and varieties are unknown until the day of the event. The trees are bare-root and typically about 3-feet tall. These trees go fast, so it’s good to get there early, as we can’t take reservations or orders over the phone.

At the End-of-Season Tree Sale, we’ll sell overstock street and yard trees from the 2010-11 planting season at discounted prices. These trees are eight- to 12-feet tall and sizable enough to make a significant impact on your landscape right after you plant them. For your convenience, they will be sorted by planting strip size, so if you are shopping for a street tree, you should easily be able to identify those that would be appropriate for your space. Any of the trees may be planted as a yard tree.

We can’t take reservations or orders over the phone, so you’ll need to be there in person to select and purchase your tree. Also, these trees can be rather large, so be sure to bring a truck or other tree-hauling vehicle.

We hope to celebrate Earth Day with you by helping you find your new, perfect tree for your space. See you on Saturday, April 23!
