Big, blue and strong as an ox

What has a 5.4 liter V8 engine and is one of the newest editions to the Friends of Trees family? Formal nicknames are still pending (suggestions welcome), but it’s a big truck that Friends of Trees can use for hauling equipment and people to plantings.

With the largest and most ambitious planting season coinciding this year with the 20th anniversary for Friends of Trees, an investment in American-made might was necessary.  All three are certified used vehicles and were purchased at discounted rates at auction.

The small commuter car gives Friends of Trees its best fuel-efficient option for meetings with project partners.

Also purchased is a brand new trailer for the Neighborhood Trees (NT) program.

“Our first brand new wheels, baby!” said Mary, who was around when Friends of Trees only had loaner trucks.

“We must be on our way!”

Nine days until NT’s planting season begins (see counter, right). Volunteers, crew leaders, and even more importantly, volunteers with trucks are still in great need.
