Become a Summer Tree Inspector!

By Andy Meeks

Friends of Trees planted more than 5,000 large street trees this season in Portland and Vancouver with the help of thousands of volunteers. And we need your help to continue their good work!

Summer Inspector volunteers visit every one of the newly-planted trees the first summer after planting. Since each Summer Inspector visits 30 trees twice between June and August, we need a lot of Summer Inspectors!

Summer Inspector Trainings are coming in June (FOT file)

Summer Inspectors learn how to assess the health of newly-planted street and yard trees and give homeowners watering and mulching tips. Being a Summer Inspector gives you a chance to meet your neighbors and to help them take care of their trees during the critical first summer after planting.

The best benefits of this role? You can make your own schedule, walk/bike/skip around the beautiful neighborhoods of Portland and Vancouver, and provide new tree owners with tips about how to care for their new trees. The total time commitment is about 12 hours. A four-hour Saturday morning training is required.

Tree LoveOur trainings this year will be held on Saturday, June 2 (NE Portland – location TBD) and Saturday, June 9 (SE Portland – location TBD) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. We’ll provide expert instruction as well as coffee, breakfast treats, pizza and a Tree Team T-shirt.
