Our newest group of Neighborhood Trees crew leaders was trained this past weekend at Moreland Presbyterian Church in Sellwood-Moreland. We were very lucky because it was a gorgeous day and things seemed to be going our way. We started with a well-attended training, followed that with a tasty lunch, and finished up with a successful day of planting in the Brooklyn, Sellwood, Eastmoreland, and Westmoreland neighborhoods.

By the time the sun set that day, we had approximately 140 new trees in the ground and 58 new Neighborhood Trees crew leaders trained.

We have several neighborhood coordinators to thank for having found a warm and comfortable staging sight and feeding all in attendance. Seth English-Young of Brooklyn, Catherine Mushel of Eastmoreland, and Mary Dettmer of Eastmoreland were instrumental in pulling together both a delicious breakfast and a tasty lunch.

We are very appreciative of the food donations they got for us that came from the following local businesses:
– Blue Kangaroo Coffee Roasters
– Steven Smith Teamaker
– Firefox Teas
– New Seasons Markets
– Grand Central Bakery
– Portland Nursery
– Portland Bureau of Planning & Sustainability

Please help us spread the word that the Sellwood and Brooklyn neighborhoods are now in need of new neighborhood coordinators. Feel free to contact either Andy Meeks or Andrew Land in the Volunteer & Outreach Program for more information, or read this description of what the role entails.

If you missed this training but are interested in being part of one down the road, we will be holding a mid-season Crew Leader Training on January 27 and would love to see you there!
