Oregon City
Tree Recovery Program

The damage from the February 2021 ice storm resulted in widespread tree loss throughout Oregon City. Friends of Trees is partnering with Oregon City to restore our lost tree canopy through replacing our lost trees, planting new trees, and pruning to prevent future storm damage.

Do you want to volunteer to plant trees?

There’s no planting or volunteer experience needed.

Whether you want to be a Crew Leader (attend a training to lead planting crews at both events), or a Tree Planter (simply show up and plant trees for a morning), we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

Come by yourself, or bring a group of friends, family, teammates or coworkers. This is a fun way to learn about trees, meet your neighbors, spend time outside, and give back to the community — all in a few short hours.

Become a Planting Crew Leader

20 more Planting Crew Leaders are needed to help lead Oregon City tree planting events this season. New Crew Leaders will attend an online training session to learn tree planting basics and team management skills. This is followed by an in-person session at the start of their first planting event in the fall.

Tree Pruning Workshop & Training

You can learn how to prune your trees by attending one of our workshops or trainings. Structural pruning of young trees prolongs their lifespans, helps to prevent future damage during extreme weather events, and improves clearance for sidewalk and street users.

Pruning Basics Workshop: If you’re just interested in learning how to prune your own trees at home, consider attending our workshop to learn the basics on Sat Sept 25th.

Pruning Leader Training: If you’re interested in getting more involved, you can attend our Pruning Leader Training to put those skills to work in your community at several neighborhood pruning work parties.

Become a Trained Pruning Team Leader

Pruning Team Leaders will help prune neighborhood trees at our work parties. To join our pruning team, we require that you first take our free online tree pruning training before attending an event. Our certified arborists will train volunteers to identify branches in need of removal and make proper pruning cuts, and new trainees will team up with experienced volunteers. Register today for this fun role, space limited.
