Would you like to take part in an activity that provides you with exercise and fresh air, will green your neighborhood, and is carbon negative?

If so, consider joining Friends of Trees for our second Plant By Bike! event of the planting season on January 22 at the Laurelhurst, Kerns, Sunnyside and North Tabor neighborhood planting. Bicycling crews will transport all of the trees, tools and people to various homes in the neighborhood to plant trees that will ultimately absorb carbon dioxide and mitigate stormwater runoff as well as provide a host of other benefits.

If you’d like to get involved, sign up here to let us know how you’d like to help—tree planter, tool carrier, tree chauffeur, or some combination of the three. Can’t make it out for this one? Our next bike planting will be on Saturday, February 5, in the Piedmont and Woodlawn neighborhoods.

Our first bike planting of the season was on December 5 in the Buckman, Richmond and HAND neighborhoods, and was a great success. Mayor Adams even helped plant a few trees with the bike crew! You can watch a video from that planting.

Our January 22 event is on the calendar for Shift, a Portland web site for bike enthusiasts that encourages “bikey fun.” Meet your neighbors, get some outside exercise, and beautify Portland all at the same time.
