Friends of Trees, ODOT, and Metro will launch the third season of the I-205 Multi-Use Path A New Forest Grows project this Saturday. In honor of the Parkrose community’s centennial, volunteers will plant 100 trees near the Parkrose Transit Center, 9481 NE Sandy.

Saturday’s Green Space Initiative planting is from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, with breakfast pastries, hot drinks, and registration at 8:45 am. Among this weekend’s volunteers are students from Portland’s I Have a Dream Foundation, which was founded in 1990 to help low-income children succeed in school and college.

Community planting events have also been scheduled along the I-205 Multi-Use Path near the Parkrose Transit Center on December 17, 2011, and January 16, 2012. In addition, between October 2011 and April 2012, Friends of Trees will lead community volunteers at five other plantings along the 16.5-mile path, which spans the length of I-205 from Marine Drive in North Portland to SE 82nd Drive in Gladstone.
