-Nov. 5, Thu. 10-11 a.m., is Rally for the National Conference with Scott Fogarty

This webcast, sponsored by the Alliance for Community Trees (ACT), features Fogarty, executive director of Friends of Trees, who will discuss the upcoming opportunities at the National Arbor Day Foundation.

-Nov. 7, Sat. 9 a.m. -4 p.m., is Crew Leader Training with Friends of Trees

Village at Fisher’s Landing & Fisher’s Creek, Vancouver, Wash.

The Neighborhood Trees (NT) program starts its most anticipated planting season in 20 years with this training and planting combo in Vancouver. Put on your boots, grab a donut and a shovel, and let’s plant some street trees! Register here to be a crew leader.

-Nov. 7, Sat. 7-9 p.m., is ‘Ascending the Giants’ with NW Film & Video Festival

Whitsell Auditorium, Park Blocks

This honorable mention short film comes from John Waller of Ascending the Giants, the Milwaukie, Ore., group that archives and categorizes the largest tree specimens in the state. Film is shown a final time Thu., Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.

-Nov. 9-13 is Partners in Community Forestry National Conference

DoubleTree Hotel, northeast

Week-long conference, brought to Portland by the National Arbor Day Foundation, will provide the best opportunity to meet and learn from America’s best tree professionals. Conference features include: dozens of concurrent seminars from industry leaders; introduction from Portland Mayor Sam Adams and Rep. Blumenauer (D-Ore.); tours profiling Portland’s urban canopy; and sessions given by several Friends of Trees staffers.

-Nov. 10, Tue. 6:30 p.m. is Urban Forestry Management Meeting with City of Gresham

1333 NW Eastman Pky., Gresham City Hall

Comprehensive planning continues for Gresham’s Forestry Plan.

-Nov. 11, Wed. 1-5 p.m.,  is ‘Protecting Trees During Construction,’ with Oregon Dept. of Forestry

Hilton Hotel, Vancouver, Wash.

Who likes Jazz, drinks, friends and southern barbecue? How about 375,000 trees and shrubs planted in the past two decades? Come celebrate with Friends of Trees on our past accomplishments and future growth! Send in your RSVP by Nov. 12.

-Nov. 18, Wed. 10 a.m. to noon, is ‘Urban Watershed Forestrywith Center for Watershed Protection

This webcast will cover everything from urban tree canopy basics to urban tree accounting and include a virtual field trip. Seminar costs $9 and requires online registration.

-Nov. 19, Thu. 7:30 p.m., is Portland Urban Forestry Commission Meeting

City Hall, Lovejoy Room, downtown

Appointed appeals board meets third Thursday of every month to make advisory decisions regarding right-of-way street tree permits, the Heritage Tree Program and other urban forestry issues.

-Nov. 21, Sat. 9 a.m. -1 p.m., is GSI Planting with Friends of Trees

King City Park, King City
