We’re off to an excellent start this planting season, well on our way to planting our 400,000th tree shortly after the new year. The three plantings this Saturday will be key to helping us reach that milestone.

  • Our Neighborhood Trees team will hold our first Beaverton planting of the season. They will put 40 European Hornbeams into planting strips in the Vose neighborhood at the intersection of SW Timberline Drive and SW Timberline Court. We will have support from Symantec Software and Resources for Health but can always use more hands.
  • One of our Green Space Initiative plantings will take place along the Columbia Slough on the I-205 Multi-Use Path at 10600 NE Holman. We will plant 140 native trees and shrubs, including Big Leaf Maples, Incense Cedars, Oregon Ashes, and Ponderosa Pines. These trees are younger than the trees planted at our Neighborhood Tree plantings. The I-205 planting is generously sponsored by IKEA-Portland and is presented in partnership with Metro, ODOT, and East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District.
  • Our Green Space Initiative team is also planting at Beggar’s Tick Wildlife Refuge in SE Portland. We will add to the nearly 2,400 plants we already established at this site, including Thimbleberries, Douglas Spireas, Twinberries, Oregon Grapes, and Swamp Roses. This planting is held in partnership with East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, Portland Parks & Recreation, and Johnson Creek Watershed Council.

For specific details about any of this weekend’s three events, please see our online calendar. As always, we ask that planters show up around 8:45 a.m. to allow a few minutes to fuel up with coffee and other morning refreshments and to sign in for the event. Please dress appropriately for the weather. We will provide gloves, tools, and all the guidance you will need.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Andrew Land at 503-282-8846 ext. 18 if you want additional information. We’d love your help, so please come give us a hand!
