Third Annual Dig-it! at East Sylvan Middle School

Third time’s a charm! Come help celebrate the new planting season with Portland Parks & Recreation on Saturday October 23 for the third annual Dig-It! Trees will be planted at 9 a.m. at East Sylvan Middle School, and help is needed. No experience is necessary, so newbies are welcome and the experienced can just look cool as usual—and maybe help out a neighbor.

Just think, the next time you’re on your way to the beach on Highway 26, you can swing by the school and know you planted those trees that kids will appreciate for years to come.

But if you just have to sleep in a little later, you can still make it to the ceremony beginning at 11 a.m., which includes the Neighborhood Tree Steward graduation, the Bill Naito Community Trees Award presentation, and the Planting Season Proclamation.

I hear there will be prizes, gifts, free food (“ample coffee” – PP&R knows Portlanders) and tree planting tips, too! It all wraps up around noon, so you can still get to all your Halloween decorating for the weekend.

You know we’ll be there, along with folks from PSU, Portland Fruit Tree Project, Portland Public Schools, and others.  See you there!
