Fall color tree tour this Saturday at the Ainsworth Linear Arboretum

Portland's Ainsworth Linear Arboretum in 2005
Join Friends of Trees & Portland Parks volunteer Jim Gersbach for a tour of the Ainsworth Linear Arboretum this Saturday (Chijo Takeda)

Enter autumn by taking a two-hour tour of trees with Jim Gersbach, the visionary behind Portland’s unique Ainsworth Linear Arboretum. The arboretum is a two-mile stretch of 60 species of trees planted by neighbors, Portland Parks & Recreation, and Friends of Trees.

The tour begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, at Alberta Park, NE 22nd and Ainsworth. Jim will show you a wide variety of trees in a range of fall colors. You can read about the arboretum and its five-year anniversary in the August 31 Oregonian.

For all who sign up to buy street and yard trees from Friends of Trees this year, Jim will also give a “Tree Selection Assistance” presentation on Tuesday, October 19. The event is from 7 to 9 p.m., in Room 104 of Sunnyside Elementary School, 3421 SE Salmon Street.

By showing slides and answering questions, Jim will help people choose the right tree for their home and planting strip.

Find out for yourself how simple and quick it is to sign up to buy a tree this year.
