Thank you for a fine December day of planting

Many thanks to all the volunteers and community supporters who contributed to a fine day of planting on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Because of you, we planted 255 street and yard trees in Portland’s Brentwood, Darlington, Mt. Scott-Arleta and Woodstock neighborhoods. This Neighborhood Trees planting was possible because of generous support from Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services, our Plant It Portland! partner. It was great to have Portland Urban Forester Jenn Cairo and FOT board members Fred Nilsen and Nancy Buley plant with us, too. Below are photos Nancy took at the planting:

On the same day 25 volunteers came together to plant 40 street trees along SW 22nd Ave in the Highland neighborhood in Beaverton. This should make a lasting impact for years to come. The following photos were taken at the planting by Quddus Addison:

Our Green Space Initiative planting at North Clackamas Park was the first of two plantings we’ve scheduled for the park this season as part of a partnership to improve salmonid habitat in Mt Scott Creek. Our partners include Metro (through its Nature in Neighborhoods Capital Grant Fund), Clackamas County Water Environment Services, North Clackamas Parks District, North Clackamas Urban Watershed Council, and Friends of Mt Scott Creek and of Kellogg Creek. You can read more about the project here.

Saturday’s planting was our first planting in North Clackamas Park since 1996. About 40 volunteers planted 650 live stakes of willow, nine-bark, red osier dogwood, and Douglas spiraea as well as 500 wetland emergent plants, 115 sword ferns, 25 Oregon white oaks.

Friends of Trees has one more planting this month. Please join us for this season’s first I-205 Multi-Use Path planting tomorrow, Dec. 15, at 6750 NE 112th Ave. You can find details on our Portland-Vancouver calendar.
