Don’t let a few leaves get between you and all the benefits that trees can bring!

The second annual Portland Leaf Harvest will take place November 10 through 13. Officially proclaimed “Portland Leaf Harvest Week” by Mayor Sam Adams, the harvest encourages community groups to gather leaves from the homes of people who aren’t able to harvest the leaves themselves.

As part of the Leaf Harvest, Friends of Trees launched a new Portland Leaf Harvest web site today, offering a one-stop resource to help people curb, mulch, bag, and compost their leaves.

“Trees make our city livable, and so does helping those who are less able,” said Brighton West, who initiated the Portland Leaf Harvest. “The Portland Leaf Harvest encourages neighbors to look out for one another and offer a hand to those who might not be able to work in their yard.”

On November 10, more than 50 volunteers from Friends of Trees and local Home Depot stores will collect and bag leaves from the yards of homebound seniors served by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Loaves & Fishes Center. This is the second year that the three groups have partnered on the project.
