Helping trees and sidewalks work together
By Brighton West
After reading a Friends of Trees blog post about TripStop, a new technology that allows sidewalks to flex when roots grow underneath, homeowner Fred Russell decided to give it a try.
Fred lives at the corner of SE 80th and Salmon in Portland. He hired Sidewalk Solutions to replace the sidewalk on the 80th Avenue side of his house. Sidewalk Solutions removed the old sidewalk, narrowed it by one foot, used gravel to raise the sidewalk above the roots, then installed TripStop. Watch this 40-second video to see it being installed.
