Wrapping up a special month

By Andy Meeks

April is a great month at Friends of Trees for so many reasons. We start to see the visible signs of our planting efforts as new trees leaf out for the first time in their new homes, we get to organize our annual Fruit Tree Giveaway, we celebrate Arbor Day and Arbor Month and Earth Day, and it’s the second-to-last month of our eight-month season. The finish line comes into focus.

But we don’t rest. We stay busy with a lot of outreach events and promotions connected to the fact that April has Earth Day (Tuesday, April 22) and Arbor Day (Saturday, April 26). With extra attention being paid to trees and our natural world in April, many businesses use this as an opportunity to give back to those important causes.

Friends of Trees was very fortunate to partner with several local businesses last month that not only raised awareness about the importance of trees and caring for our natural world, but also raised a significant amount of money for Friends of Trees – more than $8,500.
