What a weekend! 7 plantings, 2 states, 2 days

Planting in Medford on Jan. 12, 2013 with the Portland Timbers & JELD-WEN Windows & Doors (Portland Timbers)

Nearly 70 volunteers joined Friends of Trees, Timber Joey, Timbers players David Hurst and Jake Gleeson, and JELD-WEN Windows & Doors to plant 20 trees in Medford on Saturday and 12 trees in Springfield on Sunday. Thank you to the Bear Creek Watershed Council for partnering with us in Medford and to Friends of Trees founder Richard Seidman, for planting with us! CVTV produced this video of the first planting of the 2013 Dribble Oregon tour in Vancouver, WA, where Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt joined the planting. We’re proud to Stand Together with the Portland Timbers!

The photos below were taken at the first four cities of the Dribble Oregon tour by Timbers photographer David Blair.

On Saturday, Friends of Trees also partnered with Portland Parks & Recreation, Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center, Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, and community volunteers to plant 565 native trees and shrubs at the Columbia Children’s Arboretum. The planting wasn’t far from the tupelo grove we planted in memory of our colleague David Odom on Sunday. Below are photos Keith Nevison took at the Saturday planting.

On Saturday our Green Space Initiative also held its biggest planting to date, installing 3,550 live stake trees at Barrow Meadow in Beaverton. Many thanks to the 81 volunteers who planted with us, planting partners Clean Water Services and the City of Beaverton, and our planting event sponsor, KIND Healthy Snacks. Below are photos Logan Lauvray took at the planting.

In addition on Saturday, our Neighborhood Trees program planted 49 street and yard trees in Central Vancouver neighborhoods and 87 street and yard trees in Portland’s Lents and Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhoods. We appreciate the 174 volunteers who planted with us, planting partners Portland Bureau of Environmental Services and Vancouver Urban Forestry, and planting sponsor Portland General Electric. Green Lents provided the following slide show:

Community volunteers are invited to join us at one of four plantings this weekend during Martin Luther King Jr Weekend of Service. Our I-205 Multi-Use Path planting is part of a four-year project to green the 16.5-mile path in partnership with Metro, ODOT, EMSWCD, and many others. This weekend’s MUP planting is sponsored by REI Portland. Find the planting you like on our Portland-Vancouver or Eugene-Springfield calendars and join us!
