Tree curriculum: January Events

GSI Planting: 12.19.09, I-205
There are plenty of planting opportunities in January---no experience or bicycle flat-bed required, like Mr. Tarfman at our Dec. 19 planting. (FOT file)
  • Friends of Trees has 12 plantings in the month of January, five for Green Space Initiative and seven for Neighborhood Trees. Search our online calendar for one near you and help us get those trees in the ground! Walk-in volunteers are always welcome but remember to dress appropriately. Gloves, tools, and coffee and donuts are provided.
  • The Oregon Board of Forestry is meeting Jan. 6-7 in Salem to discuss a number of topics, including an update to the Forestry Program for Oregon. There will also be a workshop with a public advisory committee. For more information visit the state site.
  • The Urban Ecology and Conservation Symposium is Jan. 25 at Portland State University’s Smith Center Ballroom. Visit the online agenda to see the list of dozens local preservation professionals and their talk topics.
  • Clackamas Community College in Oregon City will host the Oregon Tilth Organic Land Care Accreditation Training Jan. 25-29. Learn about organic tree care, soil health and storm water management techniques, among other topics.
