–President Obama planted a 25-foot Linden Tree today.

Well, kind of.

According to ABC and Reuters, the tree was already in the ground on the north lawn of the White House when the President approached in a full suit, grabbed a golden shovel and placed nine pre-piled loads of dirt into the massive hole.

“This is a little easier than it should be,” Obama said to press, “although I probably could not lift this on my own.”

The president was provided with a runway carpet on the grass, as to not expose his shoes to mud.

To clarify, Friends of Trees does not provide runway carpeting during its plantings and encourages all volunteers, presidential or not, to dress appropriately.

–A 3-foot-tall Chestnut Tree sapling from Anne Frank’s hiding spot in Amsterdam will be planted at a human rights memorial in Boise, reports the Associated Press.

Another sapling will go to  Seattle’s Volunteer Park, not far from the site of a fatal 2006 shooting at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.
