In hindsight, it seems pretty obvious that if the Trees + Bikes movement had to start somewhere, it would be in Portland. With the popularity of our first two Plant By Bike! events in December and January and the increasing demand for more of these events, we’re offering two more opportunities at upcoming neighborhood plantings in February.

Friends of Trees will provide the trees, and you can provide your time and your bike to help get them planted! The details for the upcoming Plant By Bike! events are as follows:

  • Saturday, February 5, in the Piedmont and Woodlawn neighborhoods
    • Holy Redeemer Church, 25 North Rosa Parks Way (map)
  • Saturday, February 12, in the Boise, Humboldt, Eliot and King neighborhoods
    • Friends of Trees office, 3117 NE Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard (map)

Bicycling crews will transport all of the trees, tools and people to various homes in the neighborhood to plant trees that will ultimately absorb carbon dioxide and mitigate stormwater runoff as well as provide a host of other benefits. If you can’t make it to either of these events, we’ll probably have at least one more Plant By Bike! event in March, so stay posted.

If you’d like to get involved, sign up here to let us know how you’d like to help—tree planter, tool carrier, tree chauffeur, or some combination of the three. Meet your neighbors, get some outside exercise, and beautify Portland all at the same time.
