Many thanks to the 520 volunteers who planted with Friends of Trees the past two weekends at our Neighborhood Trees and Green Space Initiative plantings! Below is a slide show of photos that several Friends of Trees volunteers took at our Vancouver planting on February 26, which was held in partnership with Vancouver Urban Forestry and sponsored by NW Natural.

Below is a slide show of our February 19 planting in North Portland, which resulted in 527 new street and yard trees in five neighborhoods—our Neighborhood Trees program’s biggest planting day in our 21-year history. The planting was supported by Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services and the event’s sponsor, The Oregonian.

We have five plantings scheduled for tomorrow!

Two of our Green Space Initiative plantings, at Errol Heights and Clatsop Butte, are part of the annual Johnson Creek Watershed Wide Event. Both plantings have received support from East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, Portland Parks & Recreation, and the Johnson Creek Watershed Council. You can support the Johnson Creek Watershed Council by voting for them in their competition with four other finalists for a $30,000 grant from MillerCoors and the River Network.

Our other Green Space Initiative planting, at Barrow’s Meadow in Beaverton, is supported by the Tualatin River Watershed’s Clean Water Services and the City of Beaverton.

Our Neighborhood Trees planting in the Mt. Tabor and Montavilla neighborhoods is our last event of the season in which crews will bike their trees and tools to planting sites. The planting is supported by Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services and sponsored by Portland General Electric and The Oregonian. In addition, we’re hosting a planting in Southwest Portland, which begins at Rieke Elementary School.

Please join us for one of these exciting plantings. If you take any photos at the plantings and send the images (or links to the images) to TeriR@Friendsof Trees.org, we’d love to make a slide show for our blog to thank you and your fellow planters!
