Check out today’s Sunday Oregonian for an ad featuring five-year-old Phoebe, who saved up her allowance to donate to Friends of Trees. Phoebe’s generosity inspired her mother and grandmother to donate to Friends of Trees, too.

“I love trees!” says Phoebe. “I love trees because of their pretty leaves, because they’re like umbrellas, because they make a special syrup, and because you can hang a hammock from them.”

Phoebe’s mother and grandmother volunteer with Friends of Trees and donate because of Phoebe. “It took seeing the world through her eyes to remember the wonder of trees and the delight of watching something you planted grow,” they say.

Read more about Phoebe on our blog, Growth Rings.

We hope Phoebe will inspire others to support our work to grow Portland’s tree cover. Giving is easy: Become a member of Friends of Trees, give to us through the Willamette Week Give!Guide and receive treats in return, or find out how rewarding it is to buy tax-deductible Gift Trees for the holidays.

Rest assured that any donations you make will be used wisely. Friends of Trees meets all 20 guidelines of the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance. Last week we were named with other U.S. nonprofits that meet these guidelines in a full-page ad in USA Today.

Many thanks to The Oregonian for its generous sponsorship of Friends of Trees.
