Friends of Trees celebrated Oregon Arbor Day in Eugene on April 7 with a planting sponsored by NW Natural and organized in partnership with Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) and the City of Eugene. Other supporters included Lane County Fairgrounds and REI Eugene. Groups of volunteers came from the University of Oregon Outdoor Program, Kappa Alpha Theta, UO Student Sustainability Center, and Hummingbird Wholesale.

You can see videos of the planting on these TV stations: KVAL, KMTR and KEZI.

Of the 100 trees planted at the event, 25 were planted in Jefferson Park, 27 under power lines along major streets, and 48 in front of homes, churches and businesses. One of the seven planting crews was the first FOT-Eugene volunteer team to plant trees entirely by bike, with 20 volunteers on bicycles hauling 16 street trees by trailer to their planting sites.

The planting kicked off with a presentation to Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy of the city’s 33rd Tree City USA award from The Arbor Day Foundation, and the event wrapped up with barbecue provided by NW Natural.
