Clackamas County to launch tree-planting campaign

Spring Mountain, Clackamas County

Last week Clackamas County announced its plan to launch a countywide tree-planting program to increase tree cover in urban unincorporated areas of the county, according to The Oregonian.

The program will expand the county’s current restoration work being conducted by Clackamas County Water Environment Services, the North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District, and Clackamas County’s forestry program.

The Oregonian noted that the expansion might involve a $20,000 investment with Friends of Trees to plant trees along the I-205 Multi-Use Path.

Friends of Trees has been pleased to partner with Clackamas County Water Environment Services for many years. We are also excited be in the second year of a three-year partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation, Metro, East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, and others to plant trees along the I-205 Multi-Use Path.

Friends of Trees Green Space Manager Logan Lauvray says of the photo above, which was taken last year at Spring Mountain in Clackamas County:

“In 2003, the area was devoid of vegetation and a thick jute matting was installed to stabilize the bank and hold the soil in place. Friends of Trees planted in and around the jute matting with bare root and live stake plants. Many of those plants are now the trees we see [in this photo] that are 12-feet tall!”
