This summer, volunteers have already collected data on over 5,000 street trees in eight different neighborhoods, thanks to the coordination and support of the Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry Department!

And, better yet, they’re not even half way done … so that means there’s still plenty of time for you to get involved!

Attend a Tree Inventory Work Day and Learn More About Trees!

Volunteering at a work day is a great way to learn about urban forestry and meet new people. No training or experience is required, as each volunteer is paired with a trained team leader volunteer.

Volunteers will help collect tree size, health and new tree-planting potential data. There are still 20 work day dates and locations to choose from. Work days occur from 8:30 am to noon on Saturdays and Thursdays through September. Advanced registration via the website is requested; click here to find registration links to each of the neighborhood’s work days.

The neighborhoods being inventoried include Arbor Lodge, Brooklyn, Cathedral Park, Downtown, Piedmont, Portsmouth, Richmond and Woodstock. Piedmont, Portsmouth and Woodstock need the most help right now—so, sign up now to lend a hand!

For additional information, visit the Tree Inventory Project web site. And check out photos from one of the latest inventories in the Portsmouth neighborhood.

We hope to see you at an inventory this summer!
