NT sings a new tune!

Celebration dance (FOT file)

By Whitney Dorer

With two plantings last Saturday, February 18, North Portland received 700 new trees!

The Kenton and Portsmouth neighborhoods celebrated in a new way at their planting with … MUSIC! In addition to laughter, smiles, conversation, and bowls filled to the brim with steaming soup, live bluegrass encouraged folks to get up and dance. Local singer Erin Leiker was joined by visiting artist Nate Gawron, the bassist of the Kansas City, Missouri band The Wilders. Having music to welcome planters back for lunch was a new addition, and it rocked our world! Check out some photos of the festivities!

Music, delicious food, and smiles were all made possible by our rockstar Neighborhood Coordinator team. Portsmouth neighbors Amy Michet, Susan Landauer, Beth Borland, and Ben Spencer worked with Kenton team Alyssa Phelps and Lori Krampetz. Tasty donations came from North Star Coffee, Starbucks, New Seasons Market, The Fishwife Seafood Restaurant, and KIND Healthy Snacks.

Above are more great photos from the February 18 planting taken by University Park Neighborhood Coordinator Matt Krueger.

Come join us at an upcoming planting for more delicious food and festivities!
