The Toka or "Bubblegum" plum is a Japanese/European hybrid that provides the best of both options. It's said to be an outstanding pollinizer for other plums if you're objective is a huge crop, and yet is self-fertile and should provide enough plums for the average family even when planted on its own. Its aroma and flavor are said to make it stand out from the rest.
