Prefers full sun with well-drained soil, but is tolerant of wide range of light and soil conditions.
Tree is heat and drought resistant with no serious pests or diseases. Requires little maintenance; effective as a screen.

Male and female catkins. Female catkins are slightly longer.
Dark green, deeply-veined elliptical leaves with serrated edges that turn yellow gold in fall. May persist into winter.

Europe, Asia Minor, and southeastern England.
