Characteristics:
Tidy and densely-crowned tree covered with small, prominently-veined leaves that turn golden yellow in fall; very dense appearance.

Growing Conditions:
Prefers full sun with well-drained soil, but is tolerant of wide range of light and soil conditions.

Uses:
Tree is heat and drought resistant with no serious pests or diseases. Requires little maintenance; effective as a screen.

Flowers:
Male and female catkins. Female catkins are slightly longer.

Bark:
Ornamental, smooth, and steel-gray with lines.

Europe, Asia Minor, and southeastern England.
