Every summer Friends of Trees partners with @nwyou Every summer Friends of Trees partners with @nwyouthcorps, who engages youth aged 15-19 in service projects in the Northwest Region.

They help us out with summer maintenance at our natural area planting sites, which is necessary for plant survival. We offer them educational opportunities on site, such as native plant identification and exposure to project partners and their pathways to various jobs in this field.

Here we are at Rose Creek Natural Area in Happy Valley, where we sheared grass and mulched around native plants planted by 5th graders from Oregon Trail Elementary this past spring.

“Getting outside, away from the classroom, I got “Getting outside, away from the classroom, I got to see the students have a moment of immersion and creative discovery,” Harrison says. “They weren’t just looking for critters, they were also thinking about what that means for the environment.”

Friends of Trees has been partnering with the Chemawa Indian School and @elderberrywisdom on a program designed to provide opportunities for students to build knowledge and skills that could lead to careers in the environmental field.

Heat Week kicked off on Sunday, the hottest day so Heat Week kicked off on Sunday, the hottest day so far this year, with an event at Leach Botanical Garden, where leaders and experts commemorated those who died during the extreme weather last year and made calls to address climate change. This week, our staff gathered at Willamette Missio This week, our staff gathered at Willamette Mission State Park for a two-day retreat to reflect, reconnect, and strategize. The energy was as beautiful as the settings and we couldn't be more invigorated to plant trees and grow community!
