APRIL 2025: EARTH MONTH | 1 MILLION TREES | EVENTS
CELEBRATING 1 MILLION TREES & NATIVE SHRUBS!
We’re on the cusp of a truly awesome milestone: 1 million trees and native plants added to our communities since our founding in 1989. How did we get here? You showed up.
The simple act of showing up is amazing, and we don’t take it for granted. Since 1989, more than 75,000 people have woken up on a Saturday morning, put on their boots, and shown up at Friends of Trees planting events. No matter the weather or what’s going on in the world, we’ve always had people show up to plant trees. We’ve seen a million times how planting trees brings people together.
We’re thrilled to be celebrating the million tree milestone and we’re so proud of what we’ve accomplished in partnership with the community. These million trees and native plants are showing up for us—cleaning our air and water, shading our neighborhoods, and making our communities better places to live.
Our shade tree sale is taking place next Saturday at our office and is open to the public. We source our shade trees from some of the best nurseries in the United States. We are thrilled to offer this unique opportunity to purchase high quality shade trees at a fraction of their original cost.

Since 1989, PGE and Friends of Trees have worked together with the shared belief of investing in the environmental health of our communities by planting native trees and shrubs.
“Looking back on the past 36 years, we are gratified to be a part of such a rich legacy of environmental leadership,” said PGE Community Impact Director, Kregg Arntson. “Every tree planted has had a lasting impact for our communities.”
PGE’s support of hundreds of Friends of Trees planting events has helped bring communities together to grow the urban canopy and enhance green spaces, particularly in neighborhoods disproportionately affected by climate change.
“The work of Friends of Trees and thousands of volunteers over the decades has beautified neighborhoods and parks while contributing to cleaner air and healthier environments for us all,” Kregg says.
