Trees for the future: planning & planting for climate change

How does climate change impact the species of trees we plant? Cities like Chicago are planning sweeping changes in urban forest planning in response to climate change. What should our response be in the Eugene-Springfield area?

Join Friends of Trees and the City of Eugene’s Sustainability Office on Friday, Sept. 14, at 7:00 pm for a free presentation in the Sloat Room of the Atrium Building, 99 W 10th Ave., Eugene.

Longtime Friends of Trees volunteer and tree expert Jim Gersbach will discuss climate change and resilient, drought-tolerant trees for Eugene-Springfield’s future urban forest. Jim was the visionary force behind Portland’s Ainsworth Linear Arboretum, where a number of drought-resistant species have been planted. FOT staff Kris Day and Erik Burke will also talk and answer questions about climate-appropriate trees for our future urban forest.
