Join Friends of Trees, the City of Beaverton, and event sponsor Kaiser Permanente this Saturday, April 6, to celebrate Beaverton’s 19th year as a Tree City USA!

The City is turning a vacant lot into a mini-arboretum pocket park called “Wonderland Arboretum,” in a playful reference to the whimsically named streets in the surrounding neighborhood themed around Alice in Wonderland. The Arboretum will serve as a display for native trees that are appropriate for planting strips in Beaverton, with plaques marking all trees and describing their distinct features. Friends of Trees looks forward to watching this display garden take shape!

Saturday’s planting starts at 9:00 am. Volunteers are asked to arrive by 8:45 am to register and have a snack before the planting begins. They’re also invited to stick around after the event for lunch, generously donated by Veggie Grill.

Need even more enticement to come? The City of Beaverton will give away native shrubs and trees, and Mayor Denny Doyle and City Council will be in attendance to mark this very special day. For more information about the planting and all of our spring activities, visit our online calendar.
