City of Portland urban forestry happenings
Portland Urban Forestry has two workshops in January—one for local arborists and another that will cover tree pruning as part of an ongoing series—in addition to a budget meeting and the monthly commission meeting.
- Local tree care providers are encouraged to attend the free workshop Jan. 21 and get acquainted with city rules and regulations (City Code sections 20.40 and 20.42). Participants are eligible for International Society of Arboriculture credits. The class runs 6-8 p.m. at the St. John’s Community Center. Call 503-823-4489 for information.
- On Jan. 23, join the Portland Community Trees workshop series for their lesson on pruning, which will run 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the University Park Community Center. Contact Autumn Montegna at 503-701-7622 or [email protected] for more information.
- Also, the Portland Urban Forestry Commission meeting is Jan. 21, from7:30-10:30 a.m. at City Hall.
- And later in the evening on Jan. 21, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., is the Portland Parks & Recreation requested budget meeting for the 2010-11 fiscal year. Urban Forestry is housed within the Portland Parks Bureau’s branch of funding. Parks Commissioner Nick Fish must, among other things, approve the draft budget prior to final approval before the city council.
