Trees make perfect gifts
Celebrating life events and honoring your loved ones is easy with a Gift Tree from Friends of Trees.
Your green gift will grow over time and leave a legacy for future generations.
Our Gift Trees program is changing. In order to accommodate more planters, we are now offering Gift Tree purchasers the chance to plant at one of four plantings during Friends of Trees' regular planting season (October-April).
Planting dates and locations will be available in September, and there will be a variety of dates and Portland Metro-area locations from which to choose. All Gift Tree purchasers will be contacted via email with the schedule once it is available.
You will be able to RSVP for yourself and up to 3 guests for the planting that is most convenient for you; once you receive planting dates you can invite your guests directly. Plantings will happen alongside our Green Space program, at different restoration sites, and Friends of Trees volunteer planters will also be there. However, the Gift Tree planters will be in their own group, a bit separate from the larger planting. As always, if you cannot attend a Gift Tree planting, we will make sure your trees get planted.
All of our Gift Tree certificates are now electronic: You will be able to choose the certificate you prefer, print it, and give it or mail it directly to your Gift Tree recipient. Your emailed purchase receipt will contain a link to the page where the printable images are stored, along with printing instructions. For a $5 surcharge, we can print and mail you a certificate.

A few things to keep in mind:
Because of the sensitive nature of the planting sites, we can't mark individual trees, but if you join us at a Gift Tree planting you will be able to plant your own Gift Trees.
Please note that all visitors to all planting sites must follow all posted rules and regulations, and this may include staying on marked trails. Some trails and sites are closed seasonally to protect sensitive bird nesting areas, amphbian habitat, delicate native plant growth, and watershed erosion processes. Your Gift Trees help restore and enhance sensitive natural areas, benefitting wildlife, water, fish and humans.
Frequently Asked Questions About Gift Trees
Are you sending me a tree?
No, that isn't how the program works. When you dedicate a Gift Tree you are actually purchasing a seedling that will be planted as part of our Green Space Program. However, you will be able to print a Gift Tree certificate to present to your recipient that describes this special gift (a link to the certificates will be sent to you with your purchase receipt).
Can I plant the tree?
Yes! But keep in mind that planting Gift Trees takes place as part of scheduled Friends of Trees Green Space plantings during our regular planting season. Plantings take place on Saturdays, and the dates and locations will be available in September; there will be a variety of dates and Portland Metro-area locations from which to choose. The person who purchases the Gift Tree will be contacted with the schedule once it is available, and they will have the opportunity to invite up to 3 guests to a planting.

What if I don’t want to plant the tree or can’t make it that day?
Not a problem. We will ensure that your tree gets planted. You are also welcome to attend any of our Saturday Green Space restoration plantings, which are held throughout the region from October through April.
Where do the trees get planted?
Friends of Trees’ Green Space program restores natural areas throughout our region, from Troutdale to Hillsboro. All Gift Trees are planted in these areas and they play a vital role in our work restoring sensitive natural areas that are key for habitat, clean air and watershed health.
