Saturday Tree Care

Where: Tree Care volunteers are needed in the Portland‐Metro,  Salem, & Eugene areas.

When: Tree Care volunteers are needed on Saturday mornings in late April and early May. Our tree care events run from 10am – 1pm and we ask that volunteers arrive by 9:45am. Please come dressed for the weather and wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting a little muddy. For your safety, no sandals of any kind, please! Additional precautions around COVID-19 below.

More About this Role:  Join the work party and help our new trees survive the dry, hot summer! As a Tree Care volunteer, you will work alongside other awesome folks like you to mulch newly-planted trees and shrubs at the green spaces that we work. Occasionally, we will also ask our volunteers to remove invasive species that are competing with the precious new plants in the area–an excellent way to burn off some extra energy! This work is a lot of fun and ensures the highest level of plant survival through our dry summer months.

Additional Precautions around COVID-19 Safety:

  • Friends of Trees will provide sanitized tools, physically-distanced guidance, and hand sanitizer.
  • Sanitized work gloves will also be available to borrow, but we encourage folks to bring their own when possible.
  • Do you want to volunteer with your group?  Due to smaller event sizes and streamlining the registration experience, groups are no longer able to reserve a block of spaces for an event.  We love groups, and you are still welcome to volunteer together, but you will each need to register for the event as individuals.  If you have questions about which events have room for a group of your size, please contact our Volunteer & Outreach team directly.
  • For more information on safety protocol and other frequently asked questions, please read our COVID-19 & FAQ page.

*Friends of Trees prioritizes the safety & health of our volunteers and staff. As such, we will adjust the precautions we take–especially event size–per the recommendations set by the CDC and Oregon Health Authority.

If you have any questions about this role or an event, please feel free to contact Jenny or Pablo with our Volunteer & Outreach team at volunteer@friendsoftrees.org or 503-595-0213.
