Characteristics:
Evergreen tree with a dense, rounded form.

Growing Conditions:
Sun or light shade. Hardy to USDA Zone 7.

Uses:
A good evergreen street tree, but so dense it should be thinned to make it more airy and graceful.

Equal to height at maturity

Shape:
Rounded crown

Flowers:
Male and female flowers borne in separate catkins (monoecious) and are wind-pollinated.

Leaves:
Leaves ovate, 1-3 inches long, leathery, margins serrate, shiny dk. green top, white below.

Bark:
Bark gray, nearly smooth or finely scaly.

Native to southern Europe and northwest Africa.
