Zelkova serrata 'Green Vase'
Characteristics: Medium to large, broadleaf deciduous tree with vase-shaped to rounded crown.
Growing Conditions: Prefers full sun to partial shade, sandy loam to soils with some clay. Tolerant of drought and pollution once established. Grows faster than other cultivars.
Uses: Good urban street tree. Planted as a substitute for American Elm.
Shape: Vase-shaped and rounded
Flowers: Inconspicuous, yellow-green flowers, appearing before the leaves.
Leaves: Alternate, simple, elliptical leaves are dark green, turning orange-brown to bronze-red in fall.
Bark: Bark is smooth, red-brown to gray when young. Remains smooth for many years, eventually exfoliates exposing reddish brown inner bark.
