Mayor Adams plants fruit trees in Sabin

Seven new fruit trees were planted Saturday at the Sabin Neighborhood’s new community orchard.
Mayor Sam Adams, along with Commissioner Amanda Fritz, joined the Portland Fruit Tree Project and other volunteers to plant the fruit trees: pear; asian pear; apple; persimmon; fig; plum; and cherry.

Winter tree offerings from Portland Nursery

Portland Nursery has several fruit tree weekend courses coming up this month.
An intro to fruit trees is offered at both their Southeast Portland locations, and a fruit tree pruning class is offered at their store on Division.

Upcoming urban forestry events in Vancouver

Vancouver Urban Forestry has several upcoming events, including two Neighborhood Trees plantings with Friends of Trees, Feb. 27 and March 20.

Tu B’Shvat, Happy New Year for trees

Fruit tree project puts pruners in hands

The Portland Fruit Tree Project (PFTP) is expanding its winter pruning efforts to a year-round Tree Stewardship Program.
The more tree stewards, the better.
Winter pruning workshops will run this month and next month. Fruit tree selection and planting workshops begin in March, with other seasonal workshops to follow.

Organic fruit tree class, Sept. 12

As part of their fall organic gardening series, Zenger Farm is offering a Sept. 12 workshop on fruit trees.
Instructor Ryan Hofrichter said the small groups will focus on pruning, irrigation and other management strategies for the backyard gardner.
