Friends of Trees is only a few weeks into its I-205 multi-use path partnership with Metro and ODOT, and already there is an uproar.

Friends of Trees and its Green Space Initiative (GSI) program officially started planting along the I-205 multi-use path Saturday.

Last Saturday, for the first time in over three years, Friends of Trees postponed a planting.
While the dangerous road conditions never fully materialized, all the purchased trees designated for holes in Portland, Beaverton and Tigard were never planted.

It has been four months since Metro unanimously approved the largest capital grant in its history to plant more than 2,000 trees along the I-205 multi-use path.
Now the planting sites are secure.

A possibly irreplaceable tree valued at over $10,000 was cut down this week in Seattle from Washington Park Arboretum, reports the Seattle Times.
An excerpt from the story:

The weather in the morning dipped below 32 degrees Saturday, Dec. 5, but the vibrant volunteers and home owners from the Buckman, Hosford-Abernethy and Richmond neighborhoods were not deterred.

Corvallis residents and partner groups worked together to plant 61 trees last weekend. The native trees were 1.5-2” caliper, generally 7-9 feet tall, and donated by the local Sierra Club.
