Sept. 29 to Oct. 17 is Tree Steward training with Portland Public Parks & Recreation

Seven session course covers general and advanced arbor care, tree biology, identification, planting and preservation. Once trained, neighborhood tree stewards work with PP&R staff on tree projects. Class is for ages 14 and up and costs $25.

A native of Japan, this disease-resistant deciduous has small, triangular fruit. It is known as a substitute for the American Elm, is a fast-grower, and can fit in a six to eight-foot planting strip without power lines.

Street trees can add $9,000 to house prices

Native to Eastern China, Korea and Japan, this oval to rounded small tree is known for its duck foot-shaped leaves and late fall color.
If given full sun and moist soil, this tree will live happily in a 30′ inch wide parking strip for up to 50 years. Need another clue?

Staff increase = bike station modifications

With the summer arrivals of five new staffers at 3117 NE MLK Jr. Blvd., Friends of Trees added vertical hooks for hanging bicycles, upping bike storage capacity by nearly 100 percent.
